Concepts
The Content Generator enables group administrators to create layouts, templates, and web pages to build full websites. The Content Generator is a robust content management program, allowing for easy maintenance of all company web pages and the ability to share pages with users. When users place their subdomain in the url of shared web pages, the system will render the web page and content specific to the user's account. NETGEN's content sharing and render service tools allow administrators to easily manage content to their worldwide network.
The Content Generator has five main elements:
Pages:
Enables the formation of web pages. Built with Pre-Defined Regions and the framework of a layout.
Page Layouts:
Design of a page containing HTML, CSS, or any language code, along with dependent files specific to an individual layout (i.e. home page layout, 3-column layout, 2-column layout, etc.) The dependent files are used for callouts within the layout’s CSS/ Link reference JavaScript (IE. Background: url (‘mybackgroundimage.jpg’) no-repeat top left ;).
Templates:
All content is created by utilizing a template to then build a predefined region. A template is a code set that allows designers to easily pull content from the NetGen System. Example: Template: Text left, Image right. The image string will allow designers to pull images from the Content Library. Other examples are: header, text paragraph, images, bulleted/numbered lists, etc. There are no limitations to the type of templates that can be created. The dynamic parts of templates are built by strings. These strings allow the user to fill in content. For string examples look in the support manual under “Building Templates”.
Predefined Regions:
All content is created using predefined regions. A predefined region is a template that has been locked down so it can be used in multiple places but edited in one place. They are located in the Content Generator.
Content Sharing:
When pages are created, they are filled with content using templates and predefined regions. One of the unique features of NETGEN is the ability to share templates and predefined regions with users. This unique ability gives administrators the ability to provide content and deploy it within the Web Generator. The Web Generator allows users within your network to build their own web pages with shared content. When administrators update or edit the shared content - it is immediately updated on all pages where the content has been used.
*note: NetGen recommends using the Layout/Content matrix for maximum sharing capability.
